Diploma of Mental Health reflects the role of workers who provide services to clients in relation to mental health issues. They can provide counselling, referral, advocacy and education/health promotion services. These workers are required to have high level specialist knowledge, skills and competencies especially in regard to laws affecting people with mental health issues, the range of services available to them and health issues related to mental health.

Admission Requirements
Students must satisfy the following age, English and other requirements:
- Age: must be 18 years or over
- Undertake Pre Training Review
- Undertake an LLN test: Learning (ACSF Level 4), reading (ACSF Level 3), writing (ACSF Level 3), oral communication (ACSF Level 3) and numeracy (ACSF Level 3) are desirable to participate in the course.
- Student complete separate digital literacy test to identify the level of digital literacy.
- Certificate III level or above or currently working in community sector.

Skills First Funding
To be eligible for a government-subsidised training, you must be either:
- an Australian citizen, permanent resident, New Zealand citizen or asylum seeker, and
- physically present in the state of Victoria at all times at which you are undertaking the training and assessment. and
- If you are under 20 years old you can do Skills First training at any level . or
- If you are 20 years or over, you can usually only do Skills First training at a higher level than any qualification you already have in Australia.

- Delivery structure is comprised of classroom training sessions, structured learning such as training support, learning activities, self-paced (to allow the learners to absorb and reflect on their learning), workshops and work placement.

Practical Placement Requirements
To achieve Diploma of Mental Health qualification the candidate must have completed at least 160 hours of work placement as detailed in the assessment requirements of the units of competency
If a student is unable to find appropriate work placement, Hammond Institute will assist in finding the work placements.
Unit of Competency
Diploma of Mental Health requires 20 units of Competency.
